Cricket, facials and library books

"Le voyage"
by Charles Baudelaire

Pour l'enfant, amoureux de cartes et d'estampes,
L'univers est égal à son vaste appétit.
Ah! que le monde est grand à la clarté des lampes!
Aux yeux du souvenir que le monde est petit!

It's a wet day for the penultimate cricket match today but it looks like it's going ahead regardless.  So the girls are at home while the boys stand around on a damp pitch.  Another reason to marvel at the tenacity of cricket players (and parents); more an endurance sport than anything.  Luckily we stocked up on library books yesterday and I mean seriously stocked up since there's no limit on the number of books per card.  Charly needed a wheelbarrow to cart her selection.  She'd ordered them online and they were sitting in a huge, separate pile by the collection shelves.  The library bag was so bulging we felt highly conspicuous leaving, like bandits with their loot. We both expected the security alarm to ring as we exited. (I always fear that I'll miss scanning a book and will active the alarms. I sort of wince as I go through the detectors every time.) Notwithstanding the excessive number of books, I think she'll get through them before the due date for return.  She's transfixed by several young adult book series on the recommendation of her lovely book-ish friends.  Some fantasy genre. Not my cup of tea.

Meantime, Wanna wanted a facial so we applied cucumbers (she sliced a zucchini first) to her eyes and a natural yoghurt and honey mix to her already smooth and peachy complexion  She was such a fuss Bridget and couldn't lie still, and with her gorgeous eight year old skin it was entirely ludicrous an exercise, but all good fun and an excuse for some hilarious photos.  If only we could loll about doing silly things like this all day.  Well they can, I can't.
