Learning to Read

No colour coded bookshelves here.  Just sturdy shelves groaning with pictures books stashed in higgle-de-piggle-de.  It's wonderful to re-read classics with your children and re-live you childhood, and catch up on those you missed (there are so many I shamefully confess).  There are a batch of new authors and titles to explore as well.  Oh, and the Home Readers from school which Little Wanna reads it fits and spurts sounding out new words phonetically and getting distracted by describing the pictures.  Thankfully Charly helps out listening to her practice 'sounding out' the news words and providing simultaneous commentary.  It's a slow old process sometimes.

Current favourites are:
  • Rowan of Rin series by Emily Rodda 8+
  • Felicity Wishes series by Emma Thomson; 5+
  • Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew series by Carolyn Keene.  6+
